Founded by our current president’s grandparents, the college was one of the first applied art and design schools in the country. Today, students at The Illinois Institute of Art – Schaumburg hone their skills in the state’s second largest center of economic development, located 30 miles northwest of Chicago.
Schaumburg’s professional community thrives with more area businesses than downtown Milwaukee, Philadelphia, or Kansas City, MO! These businesses contribute 190,000+ jobs to the region*. But don’t fret…even with all Schaumburg has to offer, it’s still very much a residential community.
Entertainment abounds in Schaumburg with 18 movies screens and over 200 restaurants to please any palate. Woodfield Mall, one of the world’s largest retail centers and the number one tourist attraction in Illinois, is just steps away from the school. Baseball, museums, nature preserves, art galleries…the entertainment continues, and the inspiration is endless. Let Schaumburg be the educational backdrop that inspires your creations!

In 2006 little did lifelong Vancouverite, Marissa Nahanee know that her enrollment in The Art Institute of Vancouver's Event Planning program would lead to her involvement in the 2010 Olympics in her hometown.
After graduation from Ai Vancouver in 2007, Marissa continued her education at the Native Education College. Despite numerous job offers, she chose to complete her studies before pursuing her event-planning career. Her choice paid off: She was offered an opportunity to work on the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. Marissa accepted a position with one of the VANOC partners, the Four Host First Nations Society, planning events. Marissa's responsibilities include planning the Olympic torch relay.
Marissa defines her experience at Ai Vancouver as a “wake up call” to the real world. She enjoyed the program courses and really benefited from her classmates' diversity and knowledge. She appreciated the caliber of instructors and staff and felt that they certainly added to the quality of her experience at school.
The Olympic Winter Games Opening Ceremony will take place February 12 and the Closing Ceremony, February 28.

Trendiness has long gotten in the way of Los Angeles’s food scene, with shtick taking center stage while the actual food played only a walk-on role. (Think Tiki lounges, or diners where all the servers would sing and dance on the bar, and three-story submarines.) But all that’s changed over the past decade or so, led by a handful of restaurants who managed to rise above the act and deliver on one thing first and foremost: food.
Now, Los Angeles is home to things like food trucks serving 4-star meals right on the streets. Chefs and farmers are finding new followers on Twitter as they tweet about the restaurant business. Savvy diners are taking advantage of recession-busting deals and enjoying upscale food at downscale prices.
That’s not to say Los Angeles’s restaurants don’t follow trends anymore, it's just that great food, it seems, is finally the main goal. Check out this and more at www.seriouseats.com.
